Research Analyst - RW Ventures, LLC and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) (Full Time Position) 

RW Ventures, LLC and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) are seeking a full-time, Chicago-based Research Analyst whose time and projects will be split between the two organizations. Successful applicants will be innovative and motivated, with strong critical thinking and organizational skills. The person in this role will drive research, product and strategy development, and programmatic design and implementation on a range of economic development topics and projects. The position provides the opportunity to learn and grow quickly, working with leading national experts on projects at the forefront of the economic development field.

RW Ventures’ project pipeline includes the South Suburban Economic Growth Initiative, a comprehensive, multi-stakeholder effort to catalyze growth in an under-invested area of Cook County; the New Growth Innovation Network, a national, practitioner-led institution driving innovation in the field of inclusive economic growth; and an engagement to develop an overarching economic development strategy and design specific growth initiatives for the Greater Sacramento metropolitan region. GPEC’s current initiatives include advancing future industries, workforce development, public infrastructure investment strategies, and economic development policies. GPEC has adopted three-year strategic plan and annual action plan to advance equity and inclusive economic development.    

Responsibilities: 

Working closely with the rest of the team, the Research Analyst will: 

  • Conduct research, literature reviews and market analysis of business, workforce, housing and other economic activity in neighborhoods and regions, utilizing quantitative and qualitative methodologies  

  • Draft memos, reports, proposals and presentations describing economic frameworks, analysis and research results; suggesting possible strategies; and analyzing varied economic opportunities 

  • Co-invent new frameworks, products, initiatives and enterprises to address specific economic development challenges and opportunities (e.g., manufacturing innovation, urban industrial land re-use, innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems, infrastructure development and financing), often tailored to specific industries and geographies 

  • Organize, conduct and participate in project and team meetings 

Qualifications:  

Required 

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in economic development, economics, urban planning, public policy, statistics/mathematics, finance, other social sciences, or a related field 

  • 2 to 3 years’ work experience in academic research, economic and community development or related field  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills  

  • Analytical and critical thinking skills to compare and draw conclusions from complex data and material and to formulate innovative solutions 

  • Ability to engage stakeholders and policy makers around complex issues 

  • Organizational and time management skills to balance several concurrent projects for multiple firms 

  • Capacity to quickly acquire new knowledge and skills 

  • Ability to work as member of a team in a low-structure environment with limited supervision 

  • Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and  

Preferred 

  • Advanced degree in the fields noted above 

  • Project management experience 

  • Familiarity with statistical software such as Stata or R 

  • Familiarity with ArcGIS or similar mapping software
