Op-Ed: Chicago's Washington Park a Perfect Fit for TIF

An op-ed in the Chicago Tribune addresses the long history of tax increment financing abuse in Chicago, but supports a proposed TIF district for Washington Park.

According to an op-ed by the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board, it's a shame that tax increment financing district's get a bad wrap, "because it can be an effective redevelopment tool when used as intended." Moreover, says the argument of the article, "Washington Park is exactly the sort of neighborhood TIFs are designed to help."

The op-ed is written in reaction to residents who have cited past abuses of TIFs and fear of displacement as reasons to oppose a proposed TIF district in Washington Park.
