More 'Parklets' Heading to San Francisco

The City of San Francisco is expanding its program of "parklets" -- small public patio-like spaces built on parking spots.

Permit applications for 27 new parklets have been turned into the city, of which eight have been approved.

"[A]t least eight businesses that received no objections are working on their own parklets. DPW spokeswoman Gloria Chan breaks down where those new public spaces will be sprouting:

'To date, DPW has issued eight permits out of the 27 and is in the process of permitting the remainder over the next couple of weeks.'"
