Winnipeg's 'Big Dig'
In an effort to protect one of Canada's most flood-prone cities, the City of Winnipeg is expanding its 40-year old floodway.

And according to officials here, the Prairie capital of Winnipeg is the capital city that may be the most threatened by flooding...This week, in a move long awaited by local residents, construction teams began work to make sure such a flood can never threaten Winnipeg again. In southern Manitoba's most expensive infrastructure project, planned long before the catastrophic flooding of Louisiana, they started digging out a major new floodway system."
