Massachusetts Car-Sharing Company Secures Funds For Expansion

Zipcar plans to open offices in 11 other metro areas.
"Determined to become the country's first car-sharing service offering its ''convenient and cost-effective alternative to car-ownership'' in main urban centers nationwide, the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Zipcar company secured its initial $10 million in institutional funds from West Coast venture firm Benchmark Capital, immediately launching service preparation in San Francisco, Seattle and Portland, and expansion plans for 11 other metro areas, including Toronto and Vancouver in Canada."
