Protested Bronx Plant Given Mayoral Endorsement

Ignoring his own department's numbers, Bloomberg gave the green light to the wildly-disliked Van Cortland Park plan. Neighborhood officials see the deal as political cronyism.
Despite a site in Westchester County, the court-ordered water treatment facility will destroy a corner of Van Cortland Park. Critics see the plant as Bloombergs ploy to gain political points rather than help the city's finances. By appealing to local unions and ward bosses in choosing the Bronx site, Mayor Bloomberg will add an unnecessary 1% to New Yorkers' water bills.
