Shape the Future of Cities with NYU Wagner’s Master of Urban Planning
NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service
Location: New York, NY
WebsiteRanked #1 in urban policy by U.S. News & World Report, NYU Wagner’s Master of Urban Planning (MUP) equips aspiring urban planners who are passionate about creating sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant cities with the necessary skills needed to drive transformative change. As urbanization continues to accelerate, the demand for innovative planning solutions has never been more critical. Students will gain the analytical skills and visionary approaches required to tackle today’s complex urban challenges, from housing affordability to climate resilience.
NYU Wagner’s MUP program is uniquely positioned within a school of public service, emphasizing the social, political, economic, and organizational aspects of urban planning. Unlike programs housed within traditional design and architecture schools, our program focuses on public service and the real-world application of policy.
Our rigorous curriculum combines foundational studies in spatial analysis, land use, and economics with a one-year capstone project, allowing students to gain hands-on experience and apply theory to real-world projects.
NYU Wagner offers two specialization tracks—City and Community Planning, and International Development Planning—enabling students to tailor their education to align with their career goals. In addition to in-depth coursework, students benefit from New York City itself as a living laboratory, with unparalleled access to internships, industry leaders, and NYU’s extensive network of research centers, including the Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy and the Rudin Center for Transportation Policy and Management.
Our upcoming application deadline is February 23, 2025. We encourage you to review the MUP application checklist for detailed information on the requirements.
