EPA Partners With Habitat For Humanity On Brownfields

The EPA announces an innovative Brownfields program partnership with Habitat for Humanity International.

EPA Administrator Christie Whitman has signed a memorandum-of-understanding with Habitat for Humanity International that will begin a partnership to build efficient housing on former brownfields properties. The agreement outlines each organization’s pledge to work together to bring this shared goal to completion: "The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is to establish a general working agreementbetween the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) to coordinate policies and activities in support of brownfields assessmentand cleanup, community revitalization, affordable housing for low-income persons, and residential energy efficiency. The Managing Director of the HFHI in conjunctipn with HFHI's national affiliates shall carry out this agreementwith EPA's Outreach and Special Projects Staff in the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Responseand the Office of Atmospheric Programs in the Office of Air and Radiation."
