Deputy Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank to Address Economic Developers at Federal Forum, Monday, April 15
IEDC is very pleased to announce the newest keynote speaker for our April 14-16, 2013 Federal Economic Development Forum, Deputy Secretary of Commerce, Rebecca M. Blank. Dr. Blank is a key member of the federal team working to implement top economic priorities to increase economic growth and accelerate job creation. She leads the Department of Commerce’s efforts to strengthen U.S. competitiveness at home and abroad.
IEDC will also be presenting Dr. Blank with the Federal Leadership in Economic Development Programs Award. Each year at our Federal Economic Development Forum, IEDC bestows the Federal Leadership in Economic Development Programs Award upon a federal employee who demonstrates uncommon dedication and service to the profession and cause of economic development. This year, we honor Dr. Rebecca Blank for her leadership of the United States Department of Commerce in rebuilding the American manufacturing industry, promoting export growth, and working to bring foreign investment to communities across the country.
In her previous role as Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs, Dr. Blank headed the Economic and Statistics Administration, which informs critical domestic and international policymaking through comprehensive economic analysis and forecasts. In 1997, Dr. Blank was awarded the Richard A. Lester Prize for the Outstanding Book in Labor Economics and Industrial Relations.
IEDC members joined Dr. Blank at a White House forum this past summer and her remarks and insight continue to be subjects of discussion.
“Secretary Blank understands the challenges economic developers face as we compete in a global marketplace for quality jobs. I look forward to hearing her insight which will provide all economic development professionals a better understanding of the resources available to grow prosperity in their respective community.”Craig J. Richard, CEcD,President & CEO, Greater Louisville Inc., The Metro Chamber of Commerce
Don’t miss this chance to see a national leader and expert speak to economic developers from around the country. IEDC previously announced Senator Jim Inhofe will also join us at the Forum during the Monday afternoon plenary session to accept his award for the 2013 IEDC Congressional Leadership Award. We are very excited to host two top economic development leaders here in Washington!
