When Business-Friendly Happens to Planners
In a down economy, every elected official wants business-friendly customer service. This two-hour lecture explores what this means to planners with adopted plans and ordinances. How can planners meet the expectations for expedited everything while being attentive to their legal and moral obligations, including the AICP Code of Ethics? This session will help identify how planners can help lead the implantation of business friendly practices.

INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHIES
Carol D. Barrett, FAICP, your instructor, has been thinking about practical planning ethics since she was first directed to do something illegal on the job, almost thirty years ago. Ms. Barrett is a highly acclaimed expert in planning ethics. She is author of Everyday Ethics for Practicing Planners, widely regarded as the definitive work on planning ethics. Carol is a former president of the American Planning Association's Texas Chapter. She is also a past member of the AICP Ethics Committee and the Joint APA/AICP Ethics Awareness Committee. She served on the 1978 Committee, chaired by Jerry Kaufman, which drafted the AICP Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
Mark White, AICP, Attorney, White & Smith, LLC, your instructor, is recognized as an expert in zoning and subdivision law, form-based zoning and New Urbanism, land use and takings litigation, housing, development of comprehensive growth management plans, and implementation systems. He has represented clients at every level from city, state and local governments, as well as major private developers, many of whom are involved in environmental permitting proceedings and takings litigation.
