Webinar: Making the Most out of Maps and Data for Community Planning & Development using HealthyCity.org
Healthy City (a project of the Advancement Project)
Tuesday, February 22, 2011, 10 - 11 am
This customized webinar will focus on how to use HealthyCity.org to promote a deeper understanding of community assets, characteristics, and the physical environment in order to inform and enhance the planning process. It will also highlight successful methods to engage community members in planning efforts, particularly around sharing local knowledge about the built environment. Webinar participants will learn how to:
• Conduct community assessments and profiles to learn more about the socio-economic make-up of the community and use this information to identify priorities and needs.
• Engage community members in the planning process, utilizing HealthyCity.org's Live Mapping tool that enables multiple participants to record the physical realities of a neighborhood on a shared map and think about how the built environment impacts quality of life.
• Promote initiatives to advocate for community change by creating and sharing an interactive "Story" that can include maps, data, reports, images, links and more.
*The data and maps on HealthyCity.org are limited to California, though there may be helpful methods, lessons, and tools for those outside the state.
