Foreign investment, ownership, and operation of local companies in your community can create high-income jobs, increase exports and usher in new research, technology, and workforce skills. Global flows of foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2010 have recovered from the economic downturn, and FDI is expected to continue to grow in 2011 and 2012. Greater attention is being focused on FDI as a way to bolster local economies, as the economic downturn forces local, regional and state economic development organizations to step out of their comfort zone and look for new ways to attract investment.
Join IEDC and NLC to learn critical information on how to attract FDI to your community. By attending this web seminar, you will:
• Educate your local elected officials about the benefit of FDI;
• Hear strategies on how to expand your business attraction strategy to include FDI;
• Understand federal government tools available to bring FDI to your community; and
• Learn community-level best practices to attract FDI.
Aaron Brickman, Director of Invest in America, will provide valuable information on how you can take advantage of U.S. government initiatives and tools to help attract FDI. Site selection consultant Gene Deprez, Partner at Global Innovation Partners, Inc., will provide insight on how previous communities have been successful in building FDI relationships. Together, they will give pointers on attracting foreign-based businesses to your community and discuss global best practices among communities and regions.
