We'll also provide an update on the City's implementation progress, three years after the plan's release, and give highlights from a selection of the 127 initiatives in the plan and an update on the planning process for PlaNYC 2, due to be released on Earth Day 2011.

Part 3: Lessons Learned in Local Sustainability Planning
May 20, 1:30-3 p.m. Eastern
In early 2009, three local governments – New Rochelle, NY; Newark, NJ; Miami-Dade County, FL – were chosen to participate in ICLEI's Sustainability Planning Toolkit Pilot Project. This webinar will review the progress of each local government's sustainability planning process and how you can take the lessons learned from their experiences to apply to your own sustainability planning efforts. Speakers include:
* Mayor Noel Bramson, New Rochelle, NY
* Chelsea Albucher, Sustainability Coordinator, Newark, NJ
* Amy Knowles, Organizational Development Administrator, Miami-Dade County
Fee: Free for ICLEI local government member staff | $20 for all others
Part 4: Sustainability Performance and the STAR Community Index
May 27, 1:30-3 p.m. Eastern
Join ICLEI USA and a panel of local government representatives engaged in the development of the STAR Community Index to learn about the progress over the past year to develop a national sustainability performance system for U.S. communities. The STAR framework features goals and measures across the three pillars of sustainability: environment, economy and equity.
Participants will be introduced to the first draft of the comprehensive set of goals that comprise the STAR framework. A brief presentation will describe the basis for the stakeholder process, detail the challenges and themes that have arisen, and discuss the implicit social change model that the program represents. Panelists will address how the focal areas of STAR align with their local priorities; how the framework can institutionalize a deeper level of stakeholder engagement across a broader swath of government functions; and, how the performance management system will support their communities' journey towards a long-term vision.
