Artists may soon colonize Cleveland's struggling industrial districts under a new zoning classification allows for live/work residential spaces in industrial warehouses.
"The new classification, spearheaded by downtown Councilman Joe Cimperman, will allow vacant warehouses in industrial areas to be converted into studios where artists both live and work. "Let this be a signal to people who want to develop our vacant buildings," Cimperman said yesterday. Many people already live in converted warehouse space, but they do so in violation of the City Code. Cimperman's live-work law allows council members to choose industrial areas that they think are appropriate for live-work studios in their wards."
