The Investment & Construction Authority for the Thu Thiem New Urban Area (The Thu Thiem ICA) of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam is pleased to announce an open, international Design Competition for the Thu Thiem New Urban Area. The focus of this Competition will be on the "Central Plaza, Crescent Park, and Saigon River Pedestrian Bridge".

The Thu Thiem project has an area of 740 hectares and is located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City on the east bank of the Saigon River, opposite the existing historic city center. This is the dominant area for the growth of Ho Chi Minh City in the 21st Century. In 2005, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approved the comprehensive Master Plan of the Thu Thiem New Urban Area at the scale of 1:2000.

In 2008, ICA was given permission by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to organize a two-stage open, international Design Competition for key public spaces in the plan. The Central Plaza will be the largest integrated park and plaza within Ho Chi Minh City; the Crescent Park will be Ho Chi Minh City's great waterfront park and promenade; the Saigon River Pedestrian Bridge will be an impressive architectural symbol and represent the future city.

The Competition will have two stages and will open on March 17, 2008, lasting approximately six (6) months. The first stage will be open to domestic and international professional design firms and teams (registration from host country required). Six (6) firms will be shortlisted for the second stage and be paid US$20,000 to continue with the work. One (1) winning team will be selected from the shortlist.
