SCAG's 2nd Annual Compass Blueprint Recognition Awards

Southern California Association of Governments

SCAG is encouraging local governments, non-profits, developers and others to nominate projects that exemplify the Compass Blueprint principles of mobility, livability, prosperity and sustainability. Don't wait, entries are due March 28, 2008 for projects completed or adopted between January 1, 2000 and April 1, 2008. The application is easy to fill out for your city to be recognized as a leader in good planning.

Last year, winners of the excellence awards given to the projects that exemplified Compass Principles included:

*Mobility - City of Anaheim, Platinum Triangle

*Livability - City of San Dimas Grove Station

*Prosperity - - City of Long Beach, Olive Court

*Sustainability - City of San Gabriel, Valley Vision

These projects all demonstrated a proactive strategy that integrates transportation and housing needs through design excellence, good sustainable public policy and innovative development incentives.

Last year's winner of the prestigious 2007 President's Excellence Award was the City of Glendale for its Downtown Specific Plan and Mobility Study. This landmark study was conceived as a conscious alternative to reactive policies and codes, developing an integrated and proactive strategy to inspire design excellence through incentives that encourage walkable and sustainable design, while improving mobility.

This year's winners will be showcased and presented with awards at the 2008 Regional Housing Summit held May 21 at the historic Mission Inn in Riverside.
