RFP: Unprecedented redevelopment opportunity in Downtown Austin
City of Austin Economic Growth & Redevelopment Services Office
The City of Austin has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the purchase and redevelopment of two downtown properties, the Thomas C. Green Water Treatment Plant at 600 W. Cesar Chavez St. and the Energy Control Center at 301 West Ave. The two properties, totaling approximately 6.1 acres, are integral to reaching the City's vision of a vibrant 24-hour live / work / play downtown.
The Green Water Treatment Plant is strategically located between the Second Street Retail District and the emerging Seaholm Power Plant redevelopment, making this area the linchpin connecting east and west Downtown lakefront for thousands of citizens and visitors who come to enjoy the area's scenery, vibrancy and social opportunities. The Austin City Council recently approved the location of the new Central Library on a site between the Green Plant and the Seaholm Power Plant redevelopment.
The Energy Control Center site is located on the northern edge of the Seaholm District and is surrounded on two sides by the Shoal Creek Greenbelt and Hike-and-Bike Trail. The site will share street frontages with the Seaholm redevelopment when West Ave. and Third St. are extended.
The City of Austin is seeking to collaborate with an innovative development team that shares the City Council's vision for mixed-use projects that will enhance the vibrancy of Downtown.
Solicitation number RFP-5500-RML0012-1 can be viewed on the City of Austin Purchasing Office website in the Vendor Self Service (VSS) System at http://www.cityofaustin.org/purchase.
