RFEI for a new Staten Island 2020 Study released
Staten Island Economic Development Corporation
The Staten Island Economic Development Corporation, the premier economic development advocate in the Borough, is concerned about the business environment and trends that will impact the future of the Borough's economy. The economic and labor trends occurring in the Borough suggest that without the implementation of targeted actions to diversify Staten Island's economic and business base and increase the level of employment opportunities, Staten Island will in 2020 be faced with an economy relying in large part on low-paying, low skilled jobs, mostly in the retail (big box) and service sector.
The Staten Island Economic Development Corporation seeks to undertake a study that will examine these critical components of the Borough's economy, particularly those that have not previously been examined. The intent is to create a comprehensive planning and action document. The document that results from this Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) will primarily offer an independent perspective on the Staten Island economy as it presently exists and as it will change in the future, through the year 2020. It will also present an independently conceived action plan that will deal with the problems and issues shown in the economic perspective part of the document. It will offer suggested solutions to these problems and issues.
The proposed Study has two primary goals:
· To provide a critical analysis of the policies and actions that have led to the current state of the Staten Island economy;
· To provide a list of tangible, specific actions and policy recommendations that, if implemented, will guide Staten Island's economy towards an economy in 2020 that features diverse economic and business sectors offering quality, well-paying jobs to Staten Islanders.
