April BOCEP Courses Focus On Public Safety, Brownfields And Environmental Planning

Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, Rutgers University

Through a BOCEP course, you can learn how to turn a polluted eyesore in your community into a desirable development. Or you can learn the techniques urban designers and architects use to make places safer from crime and terrorism. Or you can get that knowledge in environmental planning that you need to make better decisions for your community or region.

Neighborhood and Brownfields Redevelopment explores key issues in redeveloping urban neighborhoods. This includes gentrification, converting brownfields into developable properties, alliance building for redevelopment, and other issues. Please note that students will learn about brownfields from a planning perspective. This course does not go deeply into environmental or engineering issues related to brownfields. .

Urban Design for Safety and Security explores approaches to increase security and reduce the potential for crime. Participants will explore concepts and tools such as defensible space and Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.

Environmental Planning is designed for planning professionals with little prior experience in environmental planning. The course introduces students to core concepts in environmental planning, and their relationships to community planning, economic development, transportation planning, as well as policy.

All BOCEP courses are taught by experienced practitioners, and give you knowledge and skills that you can apply immediately to your work. You learn through guided discussions and problem-solving exercises with instructors and classmates.

BOCEP courses are high quality, convenient and affordable. There are no scheduled meetings and you can participate at any time from almost any computer with an Internet connection. Since April 2005, more than 150 professionals have taken BOCEP courses, and an overwhelming majority of them would recommend the program to other planning professionals.

Each course costs $250, but Planetizen subscribers receive a 10% discount (Promotion Code: F0883). Please note our NEW DISCOUNT POLICY. Register by April 13 to receive a discount.

The next courses run from April 19 to May 27. Students who pass three courses in a track can receive a Certificate of Completion.
