Edge as Center: envisioning the post-industrial landscape
Boston Society of Architects
An incredible opportunity with a competition prize fund of $35,000. Please visit www.architects.org/somerville.
The competition invites designers to envision the future of a pivotal post-industrial area in Somerville, known as the BrickBottom District. Urban design schemes for the area will conceptualize the ideas of neighborhood and infrastructure that accompany the redevelopment of large areas of underutilized industrial land.
Given the site's current potential for development and future light-rail transit connections, coupled with existing physical and economic constraints, the competition asks: what is the future for the BrickBottom District in the contemporary urban context?
Innovative urban visions for the area, along with more specific design interventions, will play a vital role in overcoming the complex hurdles to development in this area, transforming it in bold, optimistic ways that will benefit Somerville and its residents for generations.
Registration begins January 12, 2006 and closes March 31, 2006.
Competition entries are due May 26, 2006.
