The Atlanta Regional Commission, a 73-member metropolitan planning organization, has selected INDEX Paint the Region as its scenario-building tool for Envision 6+, a three-year process to update Atlanta's regional transportation plan and develop related plans. According to ARC Senior Planner Mike Alexander, "INDEX gives us the ability to build land-use scenarios interactively, so we can efficiently test multiple alternatives with our stakeholders to find preferred options."

For the 3,000 sq. mi. region, INDEX will be used in tandem with ARC's travel demand model and companion tools focusing on water resources, real estate markets, and health impacts of growth. Objectives include better citizen understanding of growth alternatives, and improved coordination between regional forecasts and local plans.

INDEX is a suite of interactive GIS tools for designing land-use and transportation scenarios, and evaluating their performance with indicators and stakeholder ratings. ARC's Envision 6+ joins similar regional planning processes being supported by INDEX tools in Salt Lake City, Seattle, Kansas City, and Chicago.
