Planners Should Know Better - About Law, Leadership, Placemaking, Urban Design and Redevelopment

Planners should know better. That's why the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy of Rutgers University is offering online professional development courses in planning law, leadership and management, urban design and placemaking, and redevelopment.

Bloustein Online Continuing Education for Planners works to strengthen the professional capacity of planners and instructors and further the School's public service mission.
Nine courses will be offered between April and September 2005. Each five-week course is taught at a graduate level by experts in the subject. Students can participate at their convenience from any computer with an Internet connection. There are no scheduled class meetings.

The following courses are scheduled for the spring and summer:
Land Use Laws in New Jersey April 18 to May 20
• Current Trends in Land Use Law June 1 to July 6
• Redevelopment Law and Legal Issues July 11 to August 15
• Leadership Skills for Planners April 18 to May 20
• Alliance and Partnership Building June 1 to July 6
• Strategic Planning and Implementation July 11 to August 15
• Neighborhood and Brownfield Redevelopment April 18 to May 20
• Urban Design June 1 to July 6
• Transportation Planning for Placemaking July 11 to August 15

Every class will provide ample opportunities for planners to discuss issues and resolve problems in collaboration. Working professionals and expert researchers will teach the courses.
Everyone who takes a class can join the BOCEP Community of Practice.

Students who complete a track of courses will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Bloustein School.

Each course costs $250, but discounts up to $100 are available to some members of the American Planning Association, Planners Network, and Bloustein Alumni. Planetizen subscribers get a discount of $50 per class. When registering online, please use Promotion Code: PLAN501.
