This House Is Home: An Innovative National Conference, Oct. 30 - Nov. 1, 2003, Chapel Hill, NC

The Center for Urban and Regional Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites you to a conference on affordable home ownership: This House Is Home: Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Affordable Home Ownership. This innovative national conference opens on Thursday, October 30th, with keynote speaker Henry Cisneros, founder of City Vista, formerly President and CEO of Univision, the Spanish-language network, and Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and a reception at the Carolina Club. All day Friday and Staurday morning there will be panels addressing different dimensions of affordable home ownership including: history, design, politics, economics, the social and community implications of ownership programs, and others. Each panel will have discussants from the policy and practice communities. There will be a photographic exhibit and performance of an original theater production by Street Signs Theater on Friday evening.

Conference speakers include:

Victoria Basolo, Assistant Professor in Planning, Policy and Design at the University of California at Irvine;

Eric Belsky, Director of the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University;

Chuck Bohl, Director of the Knight Program in Community Building at the University of Miami;

Rachel Bratt, Professor in Urban and Environmental Policy at Tufts University;

Michael Collins, Performance Analyst with the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation;

Avi Friedman, Director of the Affordable Homes Program at McGill University;

Edward Goetz, Director of the Urban and Regional Planning Program at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs;

Peter Bacon Hales, Director of the american Studies Institute at the University of Illinois at Chicago;

Miles Orvell, Professor of English and American Studies at Temple University;

Roberto Quercia, Associate Professor of City and Regional Planning at UNC Chapel Hill;

William Rohe, Director of the Center for Urban and Regional Studies at UNC Chapel Hill;

Michael Stegman, Director of the Department of Public Policy at UNC Chapel Hill and former Chief of Staff at HUD; and

Larry Vale, Chairman of the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT.
