KATARXIS: New Webzine on Contemporary Traditional Architecture and Urbanism

Catholic University of Portugal

Katarxis presents and promotes works and arguments by contemporary traditional architects and urbanists all over the world. Most of existing magazines dedicate all their efforts to rescape a confused culture of deconstruction and celebrate the more and more inarticulate experientations of less than five percent of established modernist star architects.Major urban design commissions are granted to architects who have spent all their professional and academical skills to demonstrate the absurdity of urban design...Major public buildings are handed over to the same architects to replicate all over the world their variations on the theme of the hopelessly chaotic state of the universe in form of scrumbled and splintering building form experiments.

The majority of people still bear in their heart visions of cities, houses, monuments which are meaningfully relating to collective memory, local traditions and ideals of harmony and beauty to be assessed by reason, sentiment and common sense.

A growing number of architects are comitting themselves again to work within the shared ideals of living communities and to serve future generations by building inhabitable places to last and to live. These often modest and unpretentious productions of great beauty and comfort are ignored and despised by the majority of the professional press.Katarxis offers its pages to credit the contemporary traditional architecture and urbanism as a major cultural contribution to the contemporary built environment!
