Ten recommendations for zoning code changes that could make housing more affordable.

A post on the Congress for New Urbanism Public Square blog by R. John Anderson outlines the zoning code reforms that could have the biggest impact on the U.S. housing supply and affordability.
According to Anderson, these include eliminating off-street parking requirements, permitting accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in all residential areas and exempting them from density maximums, getting rid of onerous limitations such as minimum lot areas, and other key reforms.
For Anderson, making housing more affordable and inclusive starts with analyzing current zoning maps and eliminating exclusionary single-family zoning on large lots.
