The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Community Development Agency are accepting applications for the position of Senior Planner. Under general direction, the Senior Planner is responsible for managing the review of complex planning applications, conducting environmental review, drafting land use policies and planning procedures, and serving as a hearing officer (Deputy Zoning Administrator). Public engagement is an important element of the job, with the goal of providing excellent customer service.


The Highly Qualified Candidate:  The highly qualified candidate thrives on working in a fast-paced office, can exercise a high degree of independence in carrying out assignments, has excellent customer service skills, focuses on solving problems and achieving positive outcomes, and has strong oral and written communication skills. The highly qualified candidate should also have at least four years of progressively responsible experience as a project planner for a public agency in California, with an extensive background in independently managing major planning applications, and a sound foundation in the requirements of the Subdivision Map Act and the California Environmental Quality Act.

Testing and Eligible List:Depending on the number of qualified applications received, the examination process may consist of a highly qualified review, skills testing, online assessment, supplemental application screening, written examination, practical performance, oral examination or any combination to determine which candidate’s names may be placed on the eligible list.

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and future vacancies that may occur in the assignment area while the list remains active. Eligible lists remain active for a minimum of six (6) months.
