KFH Group, Inc. is seeking a passionate Transportation Planner I to join our Texas team. This is a remote position for a candidate based in Texas, with a preference for candidates in the Greater Austin or Houston metropolitan areas. If you're a people-person who thrives in a collaborative environment and loves to see your ideas make a real-world impact, this is your chance to shine. The ideal candidate for this position will be a self-starter with excellent organizational, communication, writing, and quantitative skills. Professional proficiency in Spanish is highly preferred but not required.

As a small consulting firm specializing in public transportation, KFH Group offers employees the opportunity to contribute to many aspects of a project. Assignments may include data analysis, GIS mapping, technical writing, data visualization, public engagement, surveys, field visits, presentations, research, and project coordination. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with the consulting work environment, learns new tools quickly, and translates information into clear findings and practical recommendations.

KFH Group has over 30 years of experience conducting transportation development plans, comprehensive operational analyses, coordinated transportation plans, transit feasibility studies, transit facility inventories, and ADA paratransit evaluations. You'll be diving into diverse projects all while gaining invaluable experience and building your expertise.  The position’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses of transit ridership, operations, demographics, land use, surveys, community needs, and other transportation data.
• Using Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and other analytical tools to identify patterns, evaluate transportation needs, and support recommendations.
• Interpreting analytical findings and helping develop practical service recommendations.
• Independently preparing clear and concise technical memoranda, report sections, presentations, and other client deliverables.
• Developing maps, charts, tables, graphics, dashboards, and other visualizations that communicate findings to technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Planning and conducting public and stakeholder engagement through surveys, public meetings, pop-up events, focus groups, interviews, and other outreach activities.
• Conducting and coordinating fieldwork such as bus ride checks, bus stop inventories, rider surveys, observations, and data collection.
• Managing assigned tasks within established scopes, schedules, and budgets and communicating proactively when challenges arise.
• Communicating with clients and stakeholders and presenting project findings during meetings and public events.
• Using AI-enabled and other emerging tools responsibly to support research, analysis, quality control, task automation, and workflow efficiency, while reviewing outputs for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate use.

Education and experience requirements include:

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in transportation planning, urban planning, policy planning or another relevant field. 
• 2 or more years of applicable work experience. (A Master’s degree can be substituted for two years of experience)
• Demonstrated interest or experience in public transportation through professional work, internships, graduate research, academic projects, or volunteer activities. 
• Willingness to travel periodically and participate in fieldwork and occasional evening or weekend outreach activities.

This is a remote position; however, the work arrangement may change based on the needs of the company and its clients. The successful candidate will maintain an appropriate home workspace and work effectively with geographically distributed project teams. The position is expected to involve approximately 10%–20% travel and fieldwork, depending on project needs, including occasional overnight travel and evening or weekend public-engagement activities.
