Apply NowChattanooga Design Studio seeks an enthusiastic, charismatic and detail-oriented designer to support its mission and help guide the Studioʼs design efforts. The Studio is a non-profit community resource that promotes excellence in urban design in Chattanooga, Tennessee through education, facilitation, and collaboration. As a steward of the cityʼs rich legacy of urban design and planning, the Chattanooga Design Studio will strive to increase public awareness of urban design issues and their impact upon quality of life for everyone. With a particular emphasis on the importance of the public realm, the Studio will provide high level coordination of urban design efforts to help frame a vision for the future improvement of the city that promotes optimal value for the community.
About the Position:
The Urban Designer will lead projects and program priorities for the Studio in collaboration with a myriad of external partners, agencies and the public at-large. The Urban Designer will be responsible for performing, assisting with and leading a broad array of urban design, architectural and community engagement and project management operations in support of the projects and programs of the Studio. The urban designer will be required to perform analysis, and visual communication necessary to create urban design proposals and public realm aspirations. This position is full-time (exempt), 40-hours per week, and reports to the Executive Director. Significant design and communications related attributes are imperative.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate critical organizational skills; and thinking in the design of the community at a variety of scales; demonstrate knowledge of principles, practices, and trends in architecture and urban design; exhibit strong written, oral and graphic communication skills; possess illustrative graphic skills in hand renderings and/or computer aided techniques; and be capable of effectively working in ethnically, and socio-economically diverse environments.
Required Education and Experience:
The minimum requirements for the position are a bachelorʼs Degree in architecture, landscape architecture, or planning from an accredited college or university. Excelling in communication, organization, design process and thought, as well as analytical, time management, and project management skills.
Candidates should also exhibit:
- Demonstrated knowledge of urban design principles and practices;
- Demonstrated abilities in site design and planning experience;
- Ability to communicate effectively, by drawing;
- Ability to communicate effectively, by orally and in writing;
- Ability to plan independently, organize, and coordinate work and activities with others;
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within an open office and diverse workforce.
