The City of Madera is seeking a proactive, collaborative, and hands-on planner to serve as its next Planning Manager. This is a wonderful opportunity to play a significant role in a community in the heart of the State of California, located in the rich Central Valley.
The Planning Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the work activities of department staff and acts as Secretary for the Planning Commission. The Planning Manager will interpret the General Plan, zoning, and subdivision ordinances; develop division goals; manage and lead department staff; develop the department budget; make presentations on planning issues for the City Council and Planning Commission; and develop positive working relationships with the public and community groups, other government agencies, and staff.
The City will consider any combination of education and experience that has provided the required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for this position. Typically, this would include a Bachelor’s Degree in city/regional planning or a related field, and a minimum of four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in city or county planning, including at least one year of project management and supervision.
