The City of San José is looking for an energetic, forward-thinking Deputy Director of Planning to lead its top-notch staff and the Envision San José 2040 long-term growth plan. Come to the “Capital of Silicon Valley” and lead the planning efforts for one of America’s most vibrant cities!
The Deputy Director for Planning is responsible for the stewardship and implementation of the City’s General Plan and zoning policies, the review of applications for planning permits for consistency with the City’s ordinances and policies, including California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and for engagement with customers, stakeholders and the community on proposed developments.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in planning, public or business administration, civil engineering or a related field. A Master’s Degree in urban planning or closely related field is desired. Six years’ experience in senior level administrative and/or analytic work in a public or private agency. Experience managing a work unit equivalent to a major division within a City operating department is desirable.
