WHAT WE’RE ABOUT – We’re looking for motivated, out-of-the-box thinkers to join a department dedicated to making Lancaster County, Pennsylvania a better place to live, work, and visit. At the Lancaster County Planning Department, we build on the strengths of our staff to create a positive work environment and help our community plan for its future. We’re located in downtown Lancaster, a vibrant, walkable city in a county known for its world-class farmland, natural areas, and distinctive small towns.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING – You’ll play a key role in implementing the Lancaster County comprehensive plan, places2040. This plan emphasizes a countywide and regional approach we call “thinking beyond boundaries.” Senior Planners promote this philosophy in everything they do, which includes 1) working externally to promote best practices in planning and consistency with county plans and policies; 2) managing projects, organizing meetings, giving presentations, and providing input on plans and programs; and 3) guiding other staff in research, data collection & analysis, records maintenance, and meeting preparation.

FOCUS OF THIS POSITION – An important aspect of this position (Job ID 3640) is staying in touch with housing issues in Lancaster County – working with the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to better understand local housing needs. With your help, we can meet one of our policy goals to “provide a greater supply and diversity of housing types to own and rent.”
