Associate Planner and Urban Designer

The City of Charlotte is the largest municipality in North Carolina and the 17th largest city in the United States, with a population of 900,000 residents. A major commerce center, Charlotte hosts several of the nation’s largest banks and technology companies. 

The Charlotte Urban Design Center is in the Design + Preservation Division of the City of Charlotte Planning, Design and Development Department (PDD), and is charged with advancing the quality of Charlotte's built environment and bringing public awareness to the importance of urban design. Candidates will be a part of a 6-7 member team and can expect a fast-paced environment and should excel in communication skills.

Associate Planner & Urban Designer - The City of Charlotte’s Urban Design Center is looking for an Associate Planner and Urban Designer with experience producing architectural drawings, diagrams, renderings, and other graphics. Demonstrated knowledge of urban design principles, practices, and their application to the public realm and the community is required. This position is very collaborative, working across City teams and projects that focus on placemaking and urban design. This position provides support to the Urban Design Center, including implementing placemaking projects, providing design guidance on capital projects, and assisting planning processes.
