The Planning and Development Services Department is responsible for the plans and management that keep the City running. This is the department to contact if you are planning a new development, needing to rezone property, planning renovations on your home, checking compliance standards, or needing other resources for yourself, your home, or business.
The City of Abilene seeks an experienced, team-oriented leader to serve as the next Planning Services Division Manager. The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of land use, urban planning, architectural and urban design, policy planning, and administration. They will also possess a working knowledge of the policies, procedures, rules and regulations which govern the operation of local government; legislative and regulatory processes; and the use and application of modern information systems and technologies. The chosen candidate will be familiar with the public management and administration principles and practice.
A bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, management, architecture, civil engineering, or a related field and five years of progressively responsible supervisory and management experience involving interpretation and application of planning and zoning codes and regulations, are required. A master’s degree is preferred. Any combination of education and experience to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. Candidates must have a valid Texas driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment (or a military waiver).
The City of Abilene offers a competitive salary of $82,774 - $103,468+ commensurate with qualifications and experience.
