Planner I/Compliance Inspector

Powhatan County is a growing rural locality on the edge of the Richmond metro region, featuring an interesting mix of rural natural landscapes and agriculture as well as high quality commercial, industrial, residential and mix-used development.  The position of Planner I works in a small close-knit Community Development Dept.  This position reporting to the Planning Director gets exposure to all aspects of the planning and zoning processes, with a particular focus on code enforcement.  Powhatan County’s Community Development Department is Seeking a highly motivated candidate for a dual role as a planner and zoning compliance inspector. Candidates must demonstrate a great deal of organizational and time management skills. This position requires individuals to work in the office as well as out in the field. Field work includes conducting zoning compliance inspections and investigations into possible land use and setback violations as well as new commercial and residential sitework inspections. Applicants should have prior knowledge or experience of how to review basic site plan elements. While in the office, work will include reviewing residential build permits, business licenses, sign permits, event permits, and assist planning staff with conditional use permits, rezoning requests, and site plan review. Candidates must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with residents, developers, and appointed/elected officials.
