The Louisville Metro Office of Planning & Design Services (PDS) is responsible for administering the policies, programs and regulations that guide Metro’s development. Responsibilities include development plan review, overseeing design overlays and historic preservation programs, and advising the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Adjustment, Historic Landmarks and Preservation Districts Commission, and Design Overlay Committees on decisions affecting land use and the built environment.

Description:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervises community planning or land development regulations, activities and projects
Analyzes land use cases, and presents findings of planning and zoning projects at public meetings and hearings
Exercises supervision over subordinate personnel
Examples of Duties:
UNDER ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION
- Evaluates policies and procedures and develops and implements modifications
- Prioritizes and assigns zoning cases or community planning projects, reviews and edits staff reports, monitors work flow for effectiveness and efficiency, and recommends modifications, improvements and solutions to problems
- Presents findings on community planning, zoning, subdivision and land development projects at public hearings and meetings of the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Adjustment and related committees
- Coordinates community planning and zoning projects with governmental agencies, utility company representatives, engineers, and transportation agencies
- Inspects sites and analyzes proposed developments and urban planning projects to determine impact on the community and compliance with the Comprehensive Plan
- Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning zoning, community planning, and implementation of laws, regulations, ordinances, principles, procedures and activities
- Represents the department to governmental agencies, developers, community groups and the media to provide information on community planning or zoning projects and procedures

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE
Three years of urban and regional planning; comprehensive or functional community planning, or multi-modal transportation community planning experience
EQUIVALENCY
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must be eligible to be a Certified Planner by the American Institute of Certified Planners
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
