This position is a 24-month limited term full-time position and pending City Council approval may become permanent. Applications will be accepted until a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.
To perform complex professional work in the field of current or advanced planning and environmental analysis; supervise current or advanced planning projects; and perform related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is an advanced journey level classification. Work in this classification is distinguished from that of an Associate planner by the greater complexity of assignments received and by the greater independence and scope of decision making with which the incumbent is expected to operate. This classification may act as the City Planner in his/her absence.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Direction is provided by the City Planner.
Responsibilities include supervision of Associate Planners and/or Assistant Planners.
Experience and Education
To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities, and enable the individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
A typical combination is:
Experience
Four years of increasingly responsible experience in urban planning with a concentration in current planning and/or advanced planning. One year of supervisory experience and major experience with a California city are desirable.
Education
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major work in urban or regional planning, architecture, or related field considered useful in city planning.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license issued from the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
