This is responsible professional and technical work in the implementation of the City's planning and economic development activities. The work is performed under the general direction and supervision of the City's Planning Director, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. This position will also support the Economic Development department and work closely with the Economic Development Director. While the work does not involve supervision over the work of other employees, the nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain close cooperative working relationships with representatives of the City's business community and other City employees and supervisory personnel in most City departments and divisions.

Essential Job Functions
  • Researches, prepares written reports and presents to the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Architectural Design Review Board, and writes Caucus Reports for the City Council containing Planning Commission recommendations; 
  • Answers citizen's questions regarding zoning, planning, property development and related issues:
  • Work with customers on their projects from pre-application meeting through the approval process; Assists I the development of promotional/marketing material (including website) for the purpose of Citywide business attraction and retention. 
  • Assists with additional citywide economic development duties, including but not limited to small business development, grant writing, and community development.
  • Completes administrative tasks related to Planning board meetings such as mailings and minutes
  • Assists in special projects related to implementing the City of Hamilton’s Comprehensive Plan
  • Researches county deed record plats, easements and bond records for assigned projects; 
  • Checks new subdivision plats for errors, compliance with subdivision and zoning regulations and proper signatures; 
  • Approves Lot Splits and Combinations; 
  • Attends meetings of the City's Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals,,Architectural Design Review Board, community meetings, and economic development meetings as requested; 
  • Attends meetings, conferences and workshops as requested and authorized; 
  • Performs related work as required.
