The Community Development Department is looking for a strong communicator with good judgment and critical thinking skills to perform work in municipal planning, assist developers and the public in applying planning and zoning regulations and policies, and ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations, and City policies and procedures related to land use.  

What will this person do? 

  • Provide technical and professional planning services to a growing community.  
  • Review and coordinate land use application and building permits.
  • Interpret and articulate the meaning of codes, policies, procedures, rules and regulations in a manner that can be easily explained.
  • Provide excellent customer service to developers and the public in a fast paced, sometimes contentious work environment.
  • Support other development services and strategic planning staff in the Community Development Department.

 What does this person need to be successful? 

  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Earth Sciences, or closely related field.
  • 1 year of community planning or development experience.
  • Ability to make effective decisions in a timely manner.
  • Capable of clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of communication modes.
  • Skill in practicing objective rather than subjective modes of reasoning while maintaining perspective.
  • Interpersonal skills at a level necessary to meaningfully interact with developers, other department staff, and the public.
  • Ability to get work done effectively and efficiently, seeing opportunities for cooperation and collaboration.
  • Respects and embraces the diversity of a growing community.
