If so, we want you on our team as the Lancaster County Planning Department’s next Director for Land Use & Transportation.
This position manages the Land Use & Transportation Team, which includes staff responsible for transportation, growth tracking, planning education, housing, demographics, parks and open space, water resources, and community character. This position also serves as the principal staff person and secretary to the Lancaster Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), also known as the Lancaster County Transportation Coordinating Committee.
The Director for Land Use & Transportation reports to the Executive Director and serves on the department’s leadership team, which also includes the Executive Director, the Director for Planning Services, the Director for Planning Implementation, and the Administrative Services Manager.
The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge of land use and transportation policy, including a detailed understanding of the function and responsibilities of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), and experience with MPO administration. This person must have excellent communications skills and a history of proactive, collaborative, and innovative administration of projects and programs.
This position requires someone with a proven track record of achieving measurable results. Demonstrated success in working together with internal teams and community leaders is essential.
Minimum qualifications for this position are a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in planning or a related field and 8-10 years of varied and complex experience in planning, including management experience – or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform this job.
