The County of Lake seeks Deputy Community Development Director. You can apply your experience and knowledge to support advanced long range, current, housing, and environmental planning projects. This position offers the right candidate an opportunity to work on a wide array of planning projects in cannabis, housing, economic development, and other areas.


Deputy Community Development Director

The Deputy Director is an at will position who reports to the Director of Community Development and oversees the Planning Division for the County, overseeing a budget of $1.7 million annually and directing the day to day operations of the department, as well as providing technical expertise on high profile projects, including cannabis permitting and addressing housing and retail shortages. This position oversees up to 27 staff who are eager for opportunities to continue to grow and develop their planning expertise.

The ideal candidate will bring several years of knowledge and experience in CEQA, leading staff, managing complex technical planning projects and will have a demonstrated ability to understand the details, as well as the greater planning strategy, and execute a vision toward those goals. We are looking for someone who is creative and forward thinking, who finds ways to get to yes in order to meet the needs of the community. Successful candidates will bring a high level of political savvy and emotional intelligence, as well as strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, the ability to inspire others, negotiate effectively for positive outcomes, and execute a cohesive vision. The incumbent will be an excellent communicator with the ability to present complex concepts, data and objective recommendations to decision makers.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university with a major in planning, or a closely related field, AND

• Extensive responsible work experience in performing a wide scope of professional planning work, including at least three (3) years in a management or supervisory position.

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California driver's license.


Salary: $86,364 - $104,976 annually DOE/DOQ
