A Planning Manager job is available to work within City of Fort Worth Development Services Department. This position leads the 12-member Land Use and Zoning Section within the Zoning and Design Review Division. The section is responsible for implementing and maintaining the integrity of the Zoning Ordinance and Future Land Use Plan; staffing the Zoning Commission; reviewing zoning proposals and development projects for consistency with the Comprehensive Plan and for compliance with the Zoning Ordinance; conducting research and preparing reports on land use and zoning recommendations; and participating in community engagement processes for land use policies and City-initiated zoning changes. The Zoning Plans Exam team within this section reviews building permits, sign permits, and urban forestry permits for compliance with the Zoning Ordinance. The section has recently created a Conditional Use Permit tool and presents text amendments to update the Zoning Ordinance regularly.
This position is responsible for developing the section’s work program and assigning work activities, reviewing and evaluating staff work, preparing clear and concise reports, making presentations to various committees and community groups, and maintaining effective working relationships with internal customers (other sections, departments, and City officials) and external customers (property owners and developers, business and neighborhood groups, and the general public). Consults with affected stakeholders and prepares recommendations on policy and ordinance issues in accordance with best practices.
- Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from an accredited university in Planning, Architecture, Urban Planning or Design, Public Administration, Urban Geography or a related field.
- Five (5) years of experience in a planning or urban design.
- Two (2) years of supervisory or team lead experience.
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Basic ArcGIS skills.
- Extensive public contact and exemplary customer service.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
