Assistant Chief of Planning
Fauquier County’s Department of Community Development is seeking an experienced, motivated and multi-disciplined planner to join our team as the Assistant Chief of Planning. In addition to serving as a key member of our planning team and working on a variety of complex planning and policy projects, this position will assist the Chief of Planning in overseeing and coordinating daily operations, activities and leadership of the Planning Division.
This position is responsible for a variety of professional planning work including the development of comprehensive plans and small area plans; managing multifaceted land development applications and presenting them to the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals; analyzing demographic and environmental information; and providing technical assistance. Other primary responsibilities include coordinating the County’s Smart Scale applications; Secondary Road Six Year Improvement Plan (SSYP); and managing the County’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit Program.
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Planning or closely related field, with a Master’s degree preferred; at least 6 years of progressively responsible experience, with strong communication and writing skills. Supervisory experience and Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is desirable. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
