Interested in working in one of the most dynamic cities in the northeast? Want to work in a fast paced and collaborative environment? We are seeking candidates for a planner position with the Department of Planning and Urban Development to engage in development review and to undertake planning initiatives for the sustained growth and vitality of Portland, Maine.  This position is primarily focused on reviewing applications for new development proposals, but will also include the opportunity to contribute to the long-range planning and policy initiatives of the department related to zoning changes, housing policy, transportation, sustainability, and more.  Tasks involve review of development projects for compliance with municipal regulations and design guidelines, including but not limited to zoning, site plan, subdivision and historic preservation ordinances. The position also requires skills in project management, policy analysis and community engagement.  Excellent written and oral communication skills required. GIS, graphic design, and other analytical software a plus.  Municipal planning experience and master’s degree in planning or closely related field or equivalent combination preferred.  Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.  Pay rate starting at $937.50/week.
