We are seeking a Designer with 2 to 5 years of experience to be part of our Team Better Block team in our Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, or West Palm Beach offices.

Responsibilities:

Developing plans, renderings and designs for placemaking interventions, complete streets and pop-up urbanism

Drafting plans, strategies and policies for community revitalization in all phases of design & documentation, including architectural design, graphic design, and construction documentation.

Creating presentations, post-event reports and infographics

Develop recommendations for public sector clients regarding community visioning plans, comprehensive plan and code revisions, and amendments;

Prepare construction plans, cost estimates, specifications and bidding documents for landscape improvements including planting plans, construction details and layout plans;

Prepare graphics for presentation and miscellaneous graphics for reports, letters, etc.;

Coordinate and facilitate community outreach meetings, stakeholder interviews, innovative public engagement techniques, and design charrettes;

Representation of projects before client, local government staff, zoning boards, citizen groups, and elected bodies;

Preparation of project scope and budget, and responses to Request for Proposal and/or Qualifications;

Financial management of projects including invoicing, collections, effective multiplier and utilization;

Work independently and as part of a close-knit team; 

Qualifications:

Working knowledge of NACTO design guidelines

Understanding of placemaking and application of triangulation to urban design

Complete street design

Fabrication of placemaking materials using digital fabrication and traditional carpentry   

Passionate about public spaces and urbanism and willing to swing a hammer, get paint on his/her/their clothing. This position is very hands-on. 

College degree in urban planning, architecture, graphic design, or landscape architecture.  

2-5 plus years of experience in design  

Flexibility with work schedule and day-to-day tasks, as they may change as projects evolve. 

Design skills necessary: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, SketchUp, GIS and AutoCad (All other programs a plus) 

Ability and willingness to travel up to 25 percent 

Fluent in Spanish is desirable
