The City of Ventura is hiring! The Senior Planner reports to the City’s Planning Manager and is responsible for coordinating, leading, and/or supervising the daily activities of a unit in the Community Development Department. The Senior Planner performs responsible professional planning work involving, current and advance land use planning, environmental analysis, historic preservation, design review, historic preservation, affordable housing, CDBG/HOME, economic development, or related areas.
This is the advanced-journey, classification of the Planner series in which incumbents may be assigned to lead or supervise any unit or program within the Community Development Department including Land Use Planning for current and advance programs, Community/Federal Grants Programs or Economic Development. The Senior Planner works independently with minimum supervision with lead responsibility for major projects or program areas, supervises the work of subordinate staff and monitors progress of consultants and contractors, and performs the more complex and specialized assignments.
The ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated technical expertise in the preparation and implementation of current and advance land use plans. This person should be a collaborative team player with passion and interest in economic vitality and sustainability with a thorough understanding of traditional urban and neighborhood design. The ideal candidate will be results-oriented with a proven track record to reach solutions and is a skilled facilitator and communicator who is able to represent the City before governing boards. Certification through the American Institute of Certified planners (AICP) is desirable.
Salary and Benefits
The City offers a total compensation package that includes both a generous salary plus excellent benefit! Salary: $74,165.94 - $99,382.61 Annually DOQ.
Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Economics, Architecture, Public Administration, Affordable Housing or closely related field, (a master's degree in a related area is desirable); AND four years of increasingly responsible professional planning experience, including at least two years professional experience in assigned specialty with some lead responsibility. AICP certification is desirable.
