About the Enterprise Rose Fellowship

NEW: For the first time in the history of the Rose Fellowship, we are piloting arts fellowships!

The Enterprise Rose Fellowship partners emerging architectural designers and socially-engaged arts and cultural practitioners with local community development organizations to facilitate an inclusive approach to development that results in green, sustainable, and affordable communities. As an integral member of their host organization, fellows integrate design processes, artistic practices, community engagement principles, and creativity into development projects and the organization overall.

By becoming a fellow, you will learn first-hand the dynamics, challenges, and potential of mission-driven real estate development, community organizing, and policy. You will also join a growing network of passionate and talented creative practitioners who are continuously changing what is possible in community development.

About Opportunity Communities

Formed in April 2018, Opportunity Communities, LLC (OppCo) is an exciting new joint-venture business model – co-founded by The Neighborhood Developers and Nuestra Comunidad, two highly experienced Greater Boston non-profits – that holds promise for the next generation of community-driven development. OppCo believes that greater scale provides greater opportunity. The production and preservation of affordable homes, asset management and resident service – core lines of business for many community developers– all benefit from the efficiencies of scale. Yet there are equally compelling benefits to retaining a strong local presence and ownership of assets including deep knowledge of local needs and the ability to respond to them. OppCo provides a realistic way to grow capacity efficiently without sacrificing local focus.

The Rose Fellow will work within the real estate program to build greater capacity for real estate that will, over time, expand unit production over current production rates, diversify project types, and expand capacity for community revitalization. Their work will support OppCo in addressing existing local conditions: high demand for affordable housing in a cost real estate market, rising construction costs, and greater threats of displacement of local residents and business owners as rents rise.
