UnitedHealthcare Helps a Nonprofit in Phoenix Provide Medicaid Members with Housing and Services
HUD User publishes a series of case studies based on federal, state, and local strategies that increase affordable housing opportunities and support sustainable community development. The projects and community development efforts featured in these reports have demonstrated innovation through a multitude of partnerships and initiatives.
Providing Medicaid health plans and managed care services in more than 30 states, UnitedHealthcare (UHC) has addressed socioeconomic factors that have a significant impact on a person's health. UHC and a community development corporation based in Phoenix, Arizona, Chicanos Por La Causa, partnered on an expansion of services offered at the Maryvale Community Service Center that includes healthcare, nutrition services, and workforce training. To help local low-income people access affordable housing, Chicanos Por La Causa used a low-interest loan from UHC to purchase two apartment complexes located near the service center — The Palms at Camelback West and The Residences at Camelback West.
Visit HUD User's Case Studies page to learn more about UHC and Chicanos Por La Causa's efforts to pair affordable housing and health services, and to view other promising examples of how communities across the nation are raising the bar on community development.
