Tennessee Williams famously said: "America has only three cities: New York, San Francisco and New Orleans. Everywhere else is Cleveland."

Let's make our nation’s cities sing by making them a little less Cleveland and a lot more New Orleans.

Join us as we get an insider’s view of 300 years of placemaking in a city that oozes culture, enlivens history, bumps with music and doesn’t shy away from living for today because tomorrow, we die.

Placemaking Weekends are a small-group program with special attention towards the things you most want to learn about and take away with you.

Beyond our adventures with on-the-ground placemakers, we will make unforgettable memories becoming a cohort by learning about what you are trying to accomplish in your work and connecting you with people and programs you need to know to advance your work and career from the entire placemaking network.

The Placemaking Weekend Program includes:

- Enjoy active learning discussions and excursions that expose us to great places, personalities and stories around the city about the topics most pertinent to you and your work.

- Experience Mardi Gras season without the craziness of Mardi Gras weekend as we experience a local's favorite parade, Krewe du Vieux.

- Explore the bricolage food scene including visiting a local farm for a chef-driven meal.

- Learn about inequities like the ongoing freeway fight in the black Treme neighborhood and the preservation of the French Quarter.

- We'll shine a light on you, your contributions to the field and what fulfills you. Besides exposing you to a real-world hotbed of ideas, we want to utilize the network to support your effectiveness by reflecting on your passions and connecting you with industry contacts and strategies that will help you take your impact to the next level.

City topics covered will be based on your interests and could include:

Race and Place, Historic Preservation, Local Music Scenes, Neighborhood Identity and Culture, Creative Economy, Transportation, Freeway Removal, Tourism, Night Time Economy, Parades and Festivals, Tactical Urbanism, Gentrification Issues, Placekeeping, Adaptive Reuse, Climate Disaster Recovery, Micro-entrepreneurialism, Waterfronts, Food Placemaking, Crime/Violence, Poverty, Parks and Green Spaces, Equity/Inclusion, Sustainability, Community Engagement and Agency.

This program is suitable for:

- Musicians and music-programmers looking to connect with one of America's richest and most open-ended music scenes

- Historic preservationists seeking to create value around historic stories and built assets
