The Master of Science (M.S.) in Urban Planning and Development (UPD) from Saint Louis University’s Center for Sustainability provides students with in-depth knowledge of urban planning and development theory, research methods, policies, and practice. Graduates are highly skilled and creative administrators in public, private, and nonprofit sectors. This interdisciplinary program operates in conjunction with Saint Louis University’s John Cook School of Business, School of Law, and School of Social Work to offer four areas of specialization: Real Estate Development, Community Development, Economic Development, and Environmental/Sustainability Planning. The curriculum’s professional focus allows students to develop the knowledge and skills they need to become leaders in supporting urban growth and revitalization.

About the Center for Sustainability

Established in 2010 with a $5 million grant from the Alberici Foundation, the Center for Sustainability educates future leaders in sustainability and planning. Our mission is to create a more sustainable world through interdisciplinary education, research, and community engagement. Research Opportunities Faculty and students in the UPD program have been involved in more than $9 million of funded research, including projects for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Great Rivers Greenway, the East-West Gateway Council of Governments, the Missouri Growth Association, and other regional, state, and local entities. Funded graduate research assistantships are available on a competitive basis.
