CDS is seeking an experienced market analyst professional to join its team of consultants in Houston, Texas. A candidate with a master’s degree in urban planning, real estate, land development, or similar plus 2-5 years relevant experience is required. Must have experience researching and writing full market study reports. Several years of relevant experience may substitute for advanced degree.
Primary activities will include (1) demographic and economic research and (2) real estate market research, analysis and evaluation. Supporting responsibilities typically include: data gathering from secondary sources; primary research including surveys, interviews, focus groups, and field work; interpreting research results and evaluating real estate and development opportunities and challenges; writing reports, preparing and giving in-person presentations. Assignments may include market analysis for a variety of segments of private sector land uses (residential and/or commercial) and public policy / economic development analysis and strategies. Clients include both private sector developers and investors and public / civic sector entities. Assignments are primarily within Texas but have occurred throughout the U.S. and Canada, and may be in urban, suburban, or exurban / small town locations.
Beneficial skills include: familiarity with researching and analyzing demographic and economic data sources; practice with obtaining, tabulating and communicating real estate market data; basic knowledge of real estate decision-making processes and analysis; familiarity with major real estate and urban development trends; knowledge of public policies related to urban planning, development regulation, and public facility investment; geographic information systems (ArcGIS 9.3); written data presentation and discussion; strong writing, document layout, and presentation skills; and ample experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
